Dedicated to preserving our

Wild and Scenic Missouri River

About Geoffrey Gray-Lobe
Clay County, South Dakota, is my home and has been for most of my life. Five generations of my family have lived, worked, and raised families here and I’m proud to carry on that tradition.

I’m a bridge-builder, a conservationist, a land owner, and a strong advocate for open, responsive, and responsible government.

Working at Vermillion Federal Credit Union, I saw daily the challenges and successes of our local residents and businesses.

We need more sustainable, affordable housing. We need a greater diversity of employment opportunities. Agriculture and manufacturing are important sectors, and so are software development, biotech, and education. We can and should be pioneering economic development in South Dakota’s emerging hemp and cannabis industries.

Opportunities & Stewardship for Clay County

I am excited to bring a truly unique set of skills and life experiences to our Commission. Prior to working as Director of Communications at Vermillion Federal Credit Union, for seven years I was a partner and co-owner of a successful general contracting business, Greenfield Builders. I know the struggles small business owners face. Four years ago, I earned a BA with majors in Biology and Mathematics from Augustana University while supporting my family and raising two children. I know the value of education and wish my hometown offered more opportunities to build a career around my hard-earned skills.

I’ve conducted research on watershed ecology, Missouri River plants and wildlife, soil microbiology, and soybean genetics. I’ve worked as a biological science technician with the National Park Service and had the honor of serving as a professional steward of our irreplaceable Missouri National Recreation River.

Cultivating Common Ground

County issues can be contentious. I’m a man of deeply held principles who strives everyday to uphold them. But I also respect and will earnestly consider the interests of ALL current and future residents of Clay County - even those with perspectives very different from my own.

We all deserve accessible, effective local government. We all want our land, water, and air to be healthy and enjoyable. We all want economic opportunities for ourselves and our families. These consensus issues will always be my guide.

Thank you for electing me to a seat on our Clay County Commission. I am honored to serve.
