Some plain language explanation videos

Since we’ve got this nifty website, I thought it might be helpful to post a few videos with simple explanations of some of the current issues facing our county. These first two both sought to clarify certain aspects of the Conditional Use Permit Appeal which the County Commission heard on Tuesday, August 30th.

In the future, I hope to produce more “explainer videos” about specific agenda items and the general workings of county government. If you have any suggestions for topics you’d like addressed, please share them!

A brief introduction to the Heine Trust’s request for a Conditional Use Permit. What are they asking for? Wasn’t this resolved earlier this year when their rezoning request was denied?

What the heck is a “transfer of building eligibility”? Come join Geoffrey in the weeds for a not-too-jargon-y explanation!

“What does a County Commission actually do?”

During the campaign, I knocked on a lot of doors and this was the one question that came up more than any other. During my term, I’m looking forward to using this space to help folks understand what we’re up to over in the Clay County Courthouse basement.

If you’re curious about current issues before the Commission, a great place to start is the “Commissioners” page of the Clay County website. You’ll find links to upcoming meeting agendas and an archive of past meeting minutes. The meeting agendas always include a Zoom link so you can join virtually if you’re unable to make it in person.

Another great resource is the Clay County YouTube Channel. Video of recent meetings is posted a day or two after they occur. If you miss a meeting on a topic you’re interested in, these videos provide a great way to see the full discussion and understand what’s transpired.
